“Not The Kind Of Player” – German Legend Unfairly Slams Spurs Star & Rubbishes Transfer Speculation

|

The speculation surrounding the future of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has long reached the tipping point in the media, but in terms of fresh quotes and fresh commentary, former Bayern Munich and German legend Lothar Matthaus has recently offered something new to the conversation.

The Sky Germany pundit has slammed the Danish international for simply being ‘too slow’, albeit a ‘fine technician’, to make the grade at the Allianz Arena and he doesn’t believe that manager Niko Kovac would have any interest in securing his services, even as a free agent given his contract state.

Speaking to outlet Sport1, who have also claimed that the 27-year-old would definitely entertain a switch to the Bundesliga, Matthaus explained that he simply was ‘not good enough’ for the club.

“For me, he is not a player who helps the Bayern. If he is not enough for Tottenham, he is not good enough for Bayern. Eriksen is a fine technician, a typical number 10. But he’s too slow and Niko Kovac likes fast players. For me, Eriksen is not the kind of player who makes all the difference at the highest level. I stick to it, Eriksen makes no sense to me.”

It’s a pretty harsh summation but no doubt there will be those in the Spurs fanbase who agree with him and consider Eriksen goes missing too much in key games, but that’s an easy stick to beat anyone with.

When it comes to the Bayern speculation, which now seems to be taking over from Real Madrid given their lack of action, would the Bundesliga step even be the new challenge Eriksen was open to, or with his dream move seeming to be further away than ever, does it actually increase the chances of him signing a new deal with us?
